Noam Chomsky: Why is Iraq Missing from 2008 Presidential Race? In a major address, Noam Chomsky says there has been little change in the conventional debate over a US invasion abroad: from Vietnam to Iraq, the two main political parties and political pundits differ only on the tactics of US goals, which are assumed to be legitimate. On the other hand, public opposition to war has also remained consistent, Chomsky says, but, whether Iraqi or American, ignored. [includes rush transcript]…
Zzozze, I think that we’re on the same page, but when you say “he only relates facts”, is there more to relate to, other than theory, hypothesis, etc.?
What’s with the women at the start? Looks like she’s been crying.
what do you mean by that
“combination of State and Corporate power” and we do have States run by Corporate power… far more than one could think by only watching TV and going to work..
No, he exactly knows what he says, and got the balls to say it clear and loud (may be on this fact of saying it too loud he might be called dumb). But he only relates facts
Yeah he is very hard to follow he seems to talk and talk and i never get his point. I think he takes a stand against human nature we can do nothing about.
LOL
Noam Chomsky is the dumbest smart person I’ve ever seen or heard.
Ultimately, most people don’t know what “fascism” means. It tends to get thrown around a lot.
Mussolini described Fascism as a “combination of State and Corporate power.” Fascism means intense patriotism, militarism, pro-business, and anti-unionism. However, all things in politics are shades of gray. It could be argued that both Republicans and Democrats are fascist, but that would mean stretching the term a lot.
Also, I am familiar with Jonah Goldberg’s book, and I didn’t care for it.
it could serve as a deterrent at least in theory.
eco-terrorism is about the only form of left-wing fascism that i can find.
yes, the nazi’s called themselves socialists, but they actually arrested and slaughtered actual socialists. and those that crushed the spanish revolution in the 30’s were called “liberals” but those are just words that really have no meaning.
We certainly are armed! And have never seen is as important as we do at this point in time.
Viet Nam is over. John Kennedy switched to a dovish position? I don’t remember that, does anybody else. Kennedy stepped up our involvement in VN and didn’t live long enough to see it ramp up as it did later. People like Chosky has plenty of complaints I’ve not yet heard him make any helpful suggestions. “When did someone say to kill ONLY 200,000 would e okay?” I want to see that quote.
Actually, you need to read the book “Liberal Fascism” by Jonah Goldberg.
You didn’t seem to notice Loquid’s comment (about ‘hanging the Bush administration’) but are keen to stress your pacifism when I respond in kind.
Guess you’re nervous. Good. Nervous Marxists aren’t as likely to “liquidate the bourgeois classes” in the name of “historical inevitability”. And I don’t blame socialists for being more careful here than elsewhere – Americans are very heavily armed.
Now if only we can get you lot to stop trying to rob us.
Well, by your logic, then I would be right to kill you. After all, I am a Marxist and several of my friends are Marxists, too, and you have basically threatened to hang us all. Therefor, you must die. Of course, by saying that, your friends, by that principle, should kill me, too. Ultimately, it will just mean a lot of senseless killing since I mean you no harm in the first place.
Socialist don’t want to kill you, most of them (at least in the US) are pacifists. Violence begets more violence.
Fascists are from the right. There is no such thing as a “Left fascist.” Marx argued for internationalism and the working class control, Fascism stands for intense nationalism and Corporate control. It may have a common ancestor, but the two are opposites. Also, if you look at history, you’d see that Saddam’s closest ally in during his genocide of Kurdistan was Ronald Reagan, who sold chemical weapons to the regime. During the genocide the world simply turned a blind eye to it, fearing US power.

Well I’m of a mind that the best way of handling people that want to line you and your friends up against a wall and shoot them is to do them the favor first.
In any case, if it makes you feel any better I haven’t hanged any Marxists yet. More’s the pity.
….Hanging all marxists, that’s hardly a peaceful view of things, granted hanging bush would be absurd as well…what gets accomplished? Nothing
The contention was made that Saddam Hussein never supported terrorism. A challenge was made for anyone to provide prove that he had.
So I suppose you’d acknowledge the point then.
I’m well aware Saddam supported the families of palestinian bombers.
That was not a reason given for going to war, not would it have been implementable, either by force of public opinion, or by international law.
Saddam regularly paid families of Palestinian suicide bombers a small fortune (about $25000 an incident), if the attack resulted in the death of one or more Jews. He certainly did not support terrorist factions affiliated with Iran, but directly maintianed his own groups – most notably the MeK – and was keen to aid terrorists in the region associated with the Left. Abdul Rahman Yasin found refuge there, and Saddam Hussein funded Abu Nidal directly for years. None of this is a matter of debate.
Fascists frequently implement a form of socialism. The Nazis in particular were notoriously socialist.
Would rather hang the damn Marxists actually. From the highest trees. If it weren’t for these cretins we wouldn’t have to deal with all these Left fascist regimes they helped into power – like the despotic Ba’athist psychopaths in Iraq and Syria, or the secular terrorist gangs of the PLO and PFLP.
Hang the Bush administration. Hang them.
