How would the situation be different had we not gone to Iraq?

Let’s turn the situation around a second. Had we not gone to Iraq and accomplished (maybe not 100% obviously) what has been done, what would the situation be like today? Would we have regretted then another terrorist attack? What situation would the people of Iraq be going through now under Sadaam’s rule?
No one will ever know what it would have be like. It’s all speculation.
You could ask til you’re blue in the face. All your gonna get are peoples opinions.
In all likelihood we would have been attacked on our soil or another military branch would have taken casualties overseas (like when the Navy vessel was attacked). This is only speculation though because we are in Iraq.
Vet-USAF / Soon to be boots on ground in Iraq as civilian contractor.
we would have not wasted the lives of over 3000 military people . we would not be in debt over 3 trillion . gas would be back at 1.46 , like it was at the start of Bush’s first term . 100,000 Iraqi citizens would still be alive . haliburton , blackwater , Cheney , et al would have had to find another way to rob the treasury blind . Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. *
Frog is right–we can only speculate.
But we know for sure today that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, so fighting in Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism. And I think we all agree pretty much that as bad as Saddam was, people in Iraq were better off then than now.
Also I think it’s pretty safe to say that without the war in Iraq, Bush would have never gotten a second term. And gas would still be $1.50/gal.
In the 1970s we had a huge wave of double-digit inflation. Republicans like to blame Jimmy Carter for this, but it began long before he was elected. In fact President Nixon, two presidents before Carter, implemented wage and price freezes to stop inflation, which only made it worse.
But in retrospect we can see that the reason for this wave of inflation was (1) the debt caused by a long, unproductive war and (2) a sudden doubling in the price of gas which made everything shipped by truck more expensive (and in the US, that’s just about everything.
Does that situation sound familiar? I think this is very likely going to happen again. I wouldn’t have happened if we had not gone to Iraq.
I feel sorry for you because of your question as Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism or questionable 9/11.
We would be “next door” doing the same thing in Iran.
BTW if you really think that gas would be back at 1.46 then obviously you know nothing about economics and where the USA get its oil from. Just my two cents on that.
Its funny i could have swarned that the high rise of inflation was due to the credit crisis. Stop your spinning. You liberals can’t blame that on bush.
honestly nobody can answer that question and be right because the fact of the matter is that we are in iraq and noboby can know where we would be if we werent there and we can what if all day and night and get nowhere
probably we would have secured the Afghan problem by now and Saddam would still be bottled up. the inspectors would have discovered that he did not have w.m.d. and, perhaps the international community would be more likely to join our efforts to hold him accountable.
we would not have lost over 4000 of our best, not be on the verge of breaking the military and oil would not be setting records every other day.
that is just to name a few of the possible out comes that could have taken place if “the decider” had not been installed as president.
as for the Iraqi people, even with him still in power, he would not have killed as many as have been in this debacle and while things would not have gotten any better things could not be as bad as they are now.
Well genius, Iraq has never attacked America ..NEVER.. also Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks on America back in September, oh wait, I guess you thought Bin Laden was from Iraq, no my friend he was with Afgan party. I guess them weapons of mass destruction was swept under the rug since the money from that OIL is on its way, oh yeah lets not forget about the four thousand soldiers that lost their lives and thousands of Iraq soldiers that lost their lives, cause remember when we didnt find weapons, we said we were over there to help the Iraq people from their leader …now it looks like the country is in a civil war and we have three half a trillion dollars in the pot and the bodies are adding up. I guess we should tell Iraq that you guys are lucky that we are over there, if it wasnt for us ya’ll may have never been able to participate in your own civil war.
Liberals would be complaining about something else.
