Don’t believe everything you read is what we have been told many times by our parents and teachers, what about what you see; can that be believed? After all seeing is believing.

Freedom of speech is all we hear in this day and age, we are told how the media is free as to what information they share with the public. In the past couple of years I have realized the media is not actually as open as they pretend to be. Yes the government does try to control the media from time to time, but in actual fact the media is self censored. Looking back to 2003 when the United States of America invaded Iraq, all we heard was “weapons of mass destruction”. Even though these weapons were ultimately never found the media still ran clips on ex US president George W Bush Jnr. blasting away with this statement.

The reports of the war in Iraq were not complete, they were edited in such a way that it seemed that America was doing Iraq a great big favour by being there. The truck loads of dead young Iraq children were not show to the public as it would incite public outrage. We all know now that the US government had ulterior motives for invading Iraq and a media censored blanket was literally pulled over our heads to hide that motive.

We really have to use our common sense when it comes to believing the media; yes they are a great source of information but many media outlets have corporate ties, companies advertise in their papers and so on. So there is a beneficial relationship there that will give them very healthy bank accounts and sometimes questioning these corporations could be detrimental to their bank accounts health.
