You are absolutely right, the ego can and needs to be understood, but we are not our ego, we are the awareness that recognizes the ego. I started to consider that the ego can indeed be transcended after listening to an audio book by Eckhart Tolle called A New Earth; Awakening To Your Life’s Purpose. It’s great food for thought, I believe it is a crucial phase of our spiritual evolution though I don’t think we’re anywhere near ready lol
